Dan Tana's, 9071 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles (001 310 275 9444; dantanasrestaurant.com) has been serving prosciutto and melon, spaghetti with meat balls and cannoli to Hollywood stars for more than 40 years, and was the venue for George Clooney's 2006 Oscar victory party.
Madonna had a lot of celebrating to do at Lounge Lover, 1 Whitby Street, London (020-7012 1234; lounge lover.co.uk) when she took over the venue this year. She marked the end of the UK leg of her tour and celebrated her birthdaywith husband Guy Ritchie and the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and the Pet Shop Boys.
Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez and Brooke Shields joined Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes at Nino, Via Borgognona 11, Rome (00 39 06 6786752) for a pre-wedding party where the Tuscan specialities include white bean soup and grilled steaks.
Sting and Annie Lennox chose Elixir at the Opus Hotel, 322 Davie Street, Vancouver (001 604 642 6787; opushotel. com) as the venue for an after-concert party. The menu includes classic French onion soup and a more unusual dish of the local sable fish served with porcini mushrooms and oxtail.
James Gandolfini and the rest of the cast and crew of the mafia-based hit TV show The Sopranos weren't sleeping with the fishes but feasting on them when they held their end of series wrap party at The Sea Grill, Rockefeller Center, 19 West 49th Street, New York (001 212 332 7610; rapatina.com). The appropriately Italian menu included shrimp scampi and chicken scaloppini.
The Seafood Restaurant, Bruce Embankment, St Andrews (01334 479 475; theseafoodrestaurant.com), served as the 19th hole for Michael Douglas and guests, including Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres and golfer Ernie Els during the Dunhill Golf Championship this year. Dishes such as halibut with mussel chowder made sure the party went with a swing.
Earlier this year, Ewan McGregor celebrated his birthday with Renee Zellweger and the cast of the forthcoming film Miss Potter at acclaimed seafood restaurant Tanroagan, 9 Ridgeway Street, Douglas, Isle of Man (01624 612335).
