Since 1992, New York Restaurant Week (nycgo.com/restaurantweek) has some of the city's finest dining rooms offering bargain-priced set menus. The full line-up for the 2013 event, which runs from 14 January to 8 February, is yet to be announced, but expect $25 (£16) lunch and $38 (£24) dinner deals. The initiative has been copied across North America, including Dine Out Vancouver (dineoutvancouver.com; 18 January to 3 February) and San Francisco Dine About Town (sanfrancisco.travel/dine; from 15-31 January).
On 25 January, Valentine Warner will be reunited with his mentor chef Martin Hadden to cook a four-course winter-themed dinner at Bailiffscourt Hotel in Climping, West Sussex (01903 723511; hshotels.co.uk). Bagna cauda (vegetables with anchovy and garlic dip) will be followed by bollito misto (an Italian stew of mixed meats) and a frozen chestnut dessert (£78pp).
w The 20th annual St Moritz Gourmet Festival (stmoritz-gourmetfestival.ch) takes place at venues across the Swiss mountain resort from 28 January to 1 February. The programme of gala dinners, cookery demonstrations and special events includes a host of internationally renowned guest chefs, including the opportunity to meet the "Demon Chef", two-Michelin starred Alvin Leung of Bo Restaurant in Hong Kong and the recently opened Bo London, as he prepares his "X-treme Chinese" food.
Take a three-night Delhi Gourmet Tour with Natural High (01747 898104; naturalhighsafaris.com) that includes a market visit, private cookery lesson and dinner with cookery writer and broadcaster Prabeen Singh. There's also a guided tour of the Meena Bazaar, Khari Baowli spice market and a special tasting menu dinner at celebrity chef Marut Sikka's modern Indian restaurant, Kainoosh (00 91 9560 715 544; keya-kainoosh.com). Launching in January 2013, the tour costs from £1,015pp, excluding flights.
New York's top seafood chef Eric Ripert hosts the annual Cayman Cook Out (caymancookoutevent.com; 17-20 January) that includes Rundown, a lunch exploring the Cayman's culinary traditions with chef and author Anthony Bourdain.
Or learn to cook new Cypriot cuisine in Limassol at a half-day course run by restaurateur and television chef Roddy Damalis (00 357 25 582 515; roddydamalis.com). The cost is £75pp, and dates are available year-round.
