Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

There is no need to stick to the same old favourites when it comes to planning a summer holiday for the family, with plenty of interesting new options this summer. To mark the 100th anniversary of Ladybird Books, Holidaycottages.co.uk (01237 459 888) has a new collection of "vintage" holiday properties capturing the spirit of a traditional British family getaway. They include L'abri (from £870 per week), a Cotswolds barn conversion.

Feather Down Farms (01429 80804; featherdown.co.uk) has new log cabins opening this July at Warren Farm in the Mendip Hills, and Howbeck Lodge Farm in the Lake District. Sleeping six, they cost from £589 per week and feature farmhouse interiors, hot showers and flushing toilets – but no electricity.

Also new on the scene this summer, Redford Farm Barns (01865 764087; sheepskinlife.com) sits in 12 acres of Shropshire countryside, and the barn, with private annexe, can sleep up to 13, from £2,820 per week.

Eurocamp (0844 406 0402; eurocamp.co.uk) is rolling out its snazzy new Avant holiday homes in 33 parks across Europe. The six-berth units (from around £150 per night) fit two bedrooms, a lounge and kitchen, plus bathroom into just 29sq metres, adjoining a covered deck.

Sunvil (020 8758 4758; sunvil.co.uk) is offering trips to Ammouliani, a tiny island off the Greece's Halkidiki peninsula. It is home to gently shelving sandy beaches, a handful of tavernas, and blissfully little else. Seven nights' B&B at the Kastalia Hotel costs from £706pp, with flights and transfers. Also in Halkidiki, Ikos Olivia is all-inclusive, with suites from £5,433 per week for a family of four, with flights and transfers, through Tots Too (020 7284 3344; totstoo.com). Equally enticing, the sleek, new eight-bed Villa Bliveria (0800 133 7999; oliverstravels.com) on the Croatian island of Lastovo has a pool, its own mooring, and a car to use, from £7,791 per week, including transfers.

Families in search of pampering will love the Powder Byrne childcare programme launching at Château des Vigiers (020 8246 5300; powderbyrne.com). The 16th-century Dordogne château has a golf course, pools, tennis courts, spa and Michelin-starred restaurant. From £3,945 per week for a family of four, B&B.

If your kids have their hearts set on Sleeping Beauty's castle, check out Paradise Palms Platinum Homes (01342 886 431 americansky.co.uk). Located near Walt Disney World Resort, Florida, the gated community shares a pool bar and 50-seat cinema. From £859pp per week, including flights. All prices are based on travel in July or August 2015.
