Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

What to make for dinner is a common lunchtime conundrum for serious foodies. Our selection of restaurants that include opportunites for food shopping should help.

Explore the gastronomic wonderland of Boqueria – one of the world's greatest food markets – before a reviving glass of sherry at Bar Pinoxto, Mercat de la Boqueria, Plaça de la Boqueria, Barcelona (00 34 93 318 20 17; boqueria.info).

At Food Inc Bar and Café, Whiteleys, Queensway, London (020-7792 6020; food-inc.com), chef Jason Lynas cooks a menu and daily specials of dishes such as maize-fed Goosnargh chicken "coq au vin" from produce sold in the surrounding food market.

Tuck into fresh seafood from Sweden's west coast in Gabriel, Feskekorka, Rosenlundsgatan, Gothenburg (00 46 31 13 90 51; fiskekyrkan.se) which overlooks the city's 19th-century indoor fish market.

Set in a modern glass structure within a medieval meat market, Het Groot Vleeshuis, Groentenmarkt 7, Ghent (00 32 09 223 23 24; grootvleeshuis.be), serves dishes created from produce from east Flanders such as Ganda ham which are also available to buy at the deli counter.

Feast on fresh Florida seafood including conch fritters at Island Fish Company, 12648 Overseas Highway, Marathon, Florida (001 305 743 4191; islandfishco.com), then stop off at the restaurant's fish market for fresh yellowtail snapper to take away.

Buy local delicacies such as hot smoked blackbird at Ostabudin, Skolavordustigur, Reykjavik (00 354 562 2772), then lunch on fish of the day in the basement restaurant.
