An easyJet flight was delayed after a passenger boarded the wrong aircraft at Liverpool airport.

The man was booked on flight EZY603 to Belfast departing at 7.40am on 18 November, but accidentally got on the EZY7023 service to Jersey that was scheduled for the same departure time.

The Jersey flight was delayed by around 25 minutes after the security breach was discovered, while the man deplaned and boarded the correct flight.

The Belfast flight was delayed by 10 minutes.

One passenger on the Jersey flight called the security “pathetic”.

They tweeted a picture of the delayed Jersey flight, alongside the caption: “Having to get off a sleazy jet @easyJet plane at Liverpool Airport because of a security breach.

“A passenger boarded the wrong plane. Pathetic security.”

They added that there seemed to be a fault with the boarding pass scanner at Gate 7 of Liverpool airport. ”When the staff can’t scan the passes, they type in the bar codes manually and this time a passenger got onto the wrong plane,” they said.

“EasyJet works closely with all of our airports to ensure the safety and security of all passengers,” said an easyJet spokesperson.

“We are currently investigating how the passenger was able board the wrong flight to Jersey flight rather than their flight to Belfast.

“As soon as the mistake was realised onboard before departure, it was arranged for the passenger to board their correct flight.” ​

A spokesperson for Liverpool airport said it was “working with the airline and handling agent to further investigate the circumstances”.

It follows the story of an Italian man who was left distraught after he discovered he’d boarded the wrong flight.

The passenger was booked onto a Ryanair flight from Pisa to Cagliari in Sardinia in May, but somehow ended up on the service to Bari in southern Italy instead.

According to fellow passenger Vito Scotella, the man only realised he was in the wrong place when the aircraft started its descent and he noticed “the landscape was different to Cagliari“.

A Ryanair spokesperson told The Independent: “We have asked our third party handling agent at Pisa to investigate this matter and ensure it does not recur.”
