Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Filipino airline Cebu Pacific has said that it will roll out a dancing safety demonstration to more services after conducting a test on one of its flights.
The "dancing safety demo," performed on board a Cebu Pacific domestic flight from Manila to Butuan on Thursday, has become a YouTube hit, receiving over 5 million views on the video-sharing website.
In the video, supposedly filmed by a Cebu Pacific passenger, the airline's stewardesses are shown conducting a traditional safety demonstration while dancing to a song by Lady Gaga.
The airline's marketing boss Candice Iyog said that the rendition was "another way to bring out our fun culture and showcase our homegrown talents."
"We plan to roll this out onto more flights after receiving great commendations from the global public," she continued.
"This was a test demonstration so that we can get feedback from our passengers."
Although several travel commentators have questioned whether the footage came from a genuine passenger or was part of a PR stunt, the video has certainly raised Cebu Pacific's profile in the social media space, perhaps taking a leaf from other airlines.
Earlier this year, Air New Zealand created a viral named Bare Essentials of Safety, featuring cabin crew giving safety demonstrations wearing only body paint - the video has over five and a half million views on YouTube.
