Cuba road epic, sleep spray, and bike trips in India: Travel agenda
Where to go and what to know
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.1. Cuba road epic
Fly-drive trips to the Caribbean’s largest island are easier than ever. Over the next four weeks, Simon Calder will be making an on-screen tour of some of Cuba’s highlights, from Trinidad to Cayo Santa Maria.

2. Chic on peak
Luxury fashion website Net-A-Porter has added ski clothing to its sportswear site, Net-A-Sporter. The collection includes a range of jackets from Swedish outdoor brand Peak Performance, a new addition to the website, alongside ski-wear from high-end designers such as Fendi.
3. City quicker
Flybe has launched six new routes from London City Airport, opening up connections between the capital’s financial district and several parts of the UK and Ireland. The flights, which began on 27 October, serve Aberdeen, Belfast City, Edinburgh, Exeter, Inverness and Dublin.
4. On your bike
Most visitors to India’s west coast tend get around by train, but a new trip with World Expeditions will let you explore the region on two wheels. The two-week cycle trip will take you from the beaches of Goa through the pilgrimage towns of Gokarna and Udupi and on to tropical Kerala. Prices start at £1,490 excluding flights, with departures at least once a month until April 2015.
5. BA to Bilbao
British Airways will start a new double-daily service from Heathrow to Bilbao, in Spain’s Basque region, on 29 March 2015. Spanish carrier Vueling, meanwhile, is moving its four -times-a-week service from Heathrow to Gatwick.
6. Canada link
Edmonton is difficult to reach compared with other major Canadian cities, but the journey will become easier from 3 May next year. KLM is launching a four-times-a-week non-stop link from its Amsterdam hub, giving travellers one-stop connections to Edmonton from a dozen UK airports.
7. Slumber spray
Help is at hand for jet-lagged travellers who would rather not pop a sleeping pill. Sleep Plus Pillow Spray is an aromatherapeutic remedy made from natural ingredients including lavender and patchouli. Simply spray it directly on to your pillow and (hopefully) drift into an uninterrupted night’s sleep. £16.
8. Making tracks
Children can travel free of charge on the Heathrow Express until the end of the year. The promotion, valid for up to two children under the age of 15 travelling with a paying adult, is for tickets booked online and, only until tomorrow, at ticket offices and through Heathrow Express sales advisors. Tickets usually cost upwards of £17 return for children.
