Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. If it must be love, then - given that 14 February is just round the corner - it must also be late. For a romantic gift that shows thrift as well as flair, consider travelling with your loved one on the late deal offered by Travel the Unknown (traveltheunknown.com), which has reduced the price of its 19-day Monks, Tribes and Rhinos tour of North-east India, departing on 11 March by £200 to £1,900 per person if booked by Valentine's Day. Flights with Jet Airways from Heathrow, all accommodation, transfers and most meals included.
Alternatively, book by 19 February for Hayes & Jarvis's "two for one" offer in Thailand ( hayesandjarvis.co.uk). Still in Thailand, Travelbag ( travelbag.co.uk) is offering seven nights at beach-side Hua Hin for £659 per person, including B&B accommodation at the five-star Evason Pool Villa and return flights with Jet Airways. Book by 15 February, with departures 20 April-30 June.

Alternatively, seven nights in the three-star St Lucian (in, yes, St Lucia) is an impressive £599 per person, including return flights from Gatwick (departures from 20 April to 30 June). Book by 9 February to take advantage of these offers.
