Chrissy Teigen offers to curate an inflight menu – and Delta takes her up on it

Delta responded that it would show the model around its kitchen

Chrissy Teigen could just be in charge of designing your next inflight meal, all thanks to the power of Twitter.

The model and social media favourite tweeted a picture of the menu from her most recent flight, saying she was less than impressed by one of the dishes on offer.

“I will never ever take flying first class for granted but this is atrocious,” she wrote, sharing the description of “Avocado toast – sourdough, shrimp, tomato, capers”.

She commented, “plane shrimp are bad. plane shrimp on avocado toast with capers??? dear god”, adding, “this seems like a good time for me to share my dream of curating an airline menu".

Many of her followers were on board with the idea, with comedian and actress Mindy Kaling writing: “No joke I would love that airline so much”, while CNN reporter Omar Jimenez added: “For what it’s worth I wholeheartedly support this dream.”

It wasn’t long before airlines started getting in on the act.

Southwest Airlines was the first to declare its interest, commenting: “We’re always open to suggestions for our already famous packaged pretzel recipes. If there’s a way to improve on our Airplane Cookies, we’re all ears. Surely we can work together to come up with something amazing, right?”

Delta got the wrong end of the stick at first, believing there was a customer service issue when it started being tagged by Teigen fans encouraging the airline to take her up on the offer.

“I will be more than happy to assist you please provide your confirmation number, last name, flight number, and date of travel via a DM and I will be happy to review your reservation,” was the response to user allgoldeverything.

They replied: “My problem is that Chrissy Teigen hasn’t been asked by Delta to curate the in-flight menus. Or the menu in SkyClub. Please help.”

Still confused, whoever was on social media duty that day wrote back: “Thank you for providing your feedback and I will share your concerns with our Inflight catering team. We appreciate your feedback make it a great day.”

However, nine hours later it finally clicked, and Delta retweeted Teigen’s original post, saying: “Would love to show you around our kitchen. Let’s chat.”

Teigen is no novice when it comes to cuisine – she’s released two cook books since 2016, Cravings: Recipes for All the Food You Want to Eat and Cravings: Hungry for More, the latter published earlier this year.

Could this be the beginning of the Chrissy Teigen inflight menu? If Delta has any sense – and wants to appeal to Teigen’s 10.7 million-strong social media following – then it could well be.
