From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. A video showing a stowaway cat being escorted off a train after he was found to be “travelling without a ticket” has gone viral.

The cat had attempted to sneak onboard a high-speed rail service in north-west China on Sunday.

But footage shared on social media shows a train guard removing the feline passenger from the train.

Instead of picking up the cat, the guard can be seen walking it off while holding it under the armpits, before leaving it on the platform.

The woman who posted the video on Douyin, the Chinese version of Tiktok, added a caption saying that “the silly cat” had been “forced to leave the train after refusing to buy a ticket.”

It’s not clear what became of the cat after it was left at the station.

It’s not the first animal to stow away on a transport vehicle.

A mynah bird was discovered on board a flight from Singapore to the UK in January 2019.

The bird, native to southern Asia, was found around 12 hours into the Singapore Airlines flight to London, which usually takes 14 hours.

The feathery passenger had good taste: it appeared in the business class cabin.

In a video posted on Facebook, the black bird was seen perched on top of a passenger’s headrest, unperturbed by the activity in the rest of the cabin.

When a member of Singapore Airlines’ cabin crew tried to grab it, the black bird flew off.

It's not clear how the bird managed to board the 6,736-mile flight.
