Singapore’s Changi Airport has been crowned the world’s best airport for the seventh year running.
The airport topped the charts at the Skytrax 2019 awards, which are voted on by passengers from all over the world.
Changi connects passengers to 200 destinations worldwide, with 5,000 arrivals and departures a week on 80 airlines.
The transport hub advertises itself as “More than an airport”: attractions include art installations and sculptures, a butterfly park, cactus garden and cinema.
Changi’s Jewel Airport, a 137,000sqm “indoor sanctuary” connected to terminals 1, 2 and 3, will enhance the offering even further when it opens on 17 April.
The £951m development adds a suspended trampoline, giant slide, indoor forest, hedge and mirror mazes, “foggy bowls” (a children’s park with mist clouds to chase) and the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.
The airport also has an array of shops (155 in total) and dining options (105) for travellers to choose from.
“We thank our passengers for their continued support,” said Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Changi Airport Group.
“Their vote of confidence motivates us in our pursuit of service excellence and pushes us to continue redefining what an airport can be.”
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax said, “To be voted the World’s Best Airport for the seventh consecutive year is a truly fabulous achievement for Changi Airport, and this award continues to underline the airport’s popularity with international air travellers.”
Asia dominated the top 10, with Tokyo Haneda and Seoul Incheon coming in second and third place respectively.
The UK makes a showing, with London Heathrow, Europe’s busiest by passenger traffic, clinching eighth place.
