Almost 7% more passengers travelled on British Airways flights last month than in October 2009, the airline announced today.

BA carried 2.95 million travellers in October 2010 - a 6.8% increase on the same month last year.

Passenger numbers were up in all sectors, with UK and Europe traffic increasing the most, up 9.3%.

Overall, there was a 4.6% increase in premium (first class and business class) traffic last month compared with October 2009, while economy class traffic rose 3.7%.

Separately, BA announced today that it had begun twice-a-week flights between Gatwick and the Mexican resort of Cancun.

Meanwhile, Ryanair announced it carried 7.0 million passengers in October 2010 - a 14% rise on October 2009.
