From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Austrian Airlines has topped a list of the best business class in-flight wines from US-based Global Traveler magazine.

It beat Qatar Airways by only 0.28 of a point to take the award, which the magazine said "was not dependent on one or two high-scoring blockbusters pulling the rest of its wines into the winner’s corner."

Instead, said Global Traveler, the wines selected by Austrian's 55 sommeliers scored consistantly highly across all categories, with its Champagne, both its white wines and one red wine all placed in the top ten lists for their respective categories.

TAM Brazilian Airlines took third place in this year's iteration of the annual competition, which sampled wines from 25 different airlines' business class offerings and was judged by a panel that included journalists, chefs, wine importers and sommeliers.

American Airlines took the best North American award overall, as well as Best North American Red Wine for its Murphy Goode Cabernet Sauvignon, and Best North American Sparkling Wine for the Gloria Ferrer Sonoma Carneros Brut it serves on board.

The Oneworld Alliance, which took the prize for Best Airline Alliance at Business Traveller magazine's Cellar in the Sky awards in February, was once again victorious, winning Top Airline Alliance from Global Traveler.
