A fist fight allegedly broke out between two passengers on an American Airlines flight over who would get off the plane first.

The incident occurred on flight 2278 from Los Angeles to Phoenix in the US, and was caught on video by another traveller onboard the aircraft on 22 March.

Kate, known by her Twitter handle @katebytheocean0, shared the footage to social media, along with the caption: “Almost missed my connecting flight with @AmericanAir in Phoenix because two girls decided to fist fight over who was getting off the plane first. I can’t.”

In the video, the fight itself isn’t visible, but other passengers can be heard shouting, screaming and making a commotion, while an announcement over the tannoy repeats: “Call for law enforcement, call for law enforcement”.

An American Airlines spokesperson told The Independent: “American received a report of an alleged altercation between two customers while waiting to deplane from flight 2278 from Los Angeles (LAX) to Phoenix (PHX).”

According to the airline, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, either by passengers or crew.

It follows a vicious fight that broke out at a US airport after some passengers refused to wear masks, delaying the flight.

The incident occurred at Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood airport in Florida on 17 March, after travellers were deplaned from a flight to Chicago because they wouldn’t put on face coverings.

The altercation broke out between the anti-mask passengers and those who were frustrated that their flight had been delayed, reports 7 News Miami.

Captured on camera at the American Airlines terminal, the fight was between three women, who can be seen smacking and punching each other and pulling one another’s hair in footage shared on social media.

“Prior to departure, three customers were removed from American Airlines flight 2558 with service from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Chicago (ORD) for refusing to comply with the federal mask mandate and not following crew member instructions,” American Airlines told The Independent.

“After deplaning, an altercation between customers occurred at the boarding gate and local law enforcement intervened.”
