Would-be holidaymakers desperate to shake off the January blues need not contend with long-haul flights, passport control, or even leave the UK to enjoy the best-value night’s sleep on the planet.

A small family-run hotel in north Wales has been named the world’s best bargain hotel.

Lawton Court Hotel, in the seaside town of Llandudno, beat competition from around the globe to scoop first place in the Best Bargain Hotel category at the 2015 Travellers' Choice Awards.

The awards, which honour the world's most outstanding establishments, were based on millions of reviews left by holidaymakers on the travel website TripAdvisor over the past year.

Reviewers heaped praise onto Lawton Court Hotel, with guests hailing virtually every aspect of their stay there, from the owners and staff to the quality of food and impressive views.

The seafront hotel also scooped second place in the World's Top 10 Small Hotels category and came fourth in the world for service.

Run by husband-and-wife team Scott and Hannah Lawton-Jones, the 11-bedroom hotel opened its doors to guests last year and offers rooms from £74 per person per night.

“What a great end to an already fantastic first year as owners of Lawton Court Hotel,” Mr and Mrs Lawton-Jones said in a statement.

“To be recognised by TripAdvisor as a 2015 Travellers' Choice Hotels award-winner across three different categories really is the icing on the cake,” they added.

“We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of our guests from the past year for helping us to win this award. It's the valuable reviews from them that help drive the business.”

A recent guest said she “could not have asked for more” when she reviewed her stay at Lawton Court Hotel on TripAdvisor.

She said: “The owners went above and beyond making sure all our needs were met to ensure we had a great stay.

“Great location on the seafront with stunning views, rooms were spotless and well-equipped and breakfast was superb using all local produce.

“All the staff were friendly and attentive and the owners made us feel nothing was too much trouble.”

James Kay, a TripAdvisor spokesman, said: “These awards recognise the finest hotels across the globe, according to those that really matter - the guests themselves.”

He added: “This year is particularly good news for the UK hotel industry, with the UK home to more of the world's best rated properties than any other country.”

Gili Lankanfushi Maldives, on the North Male Atoll of the Maldives, took the title of the world's top hotel for 2015.
