From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The research, commissioned by adventure travel company Hurtigruten Expeditions, also found that though 30 per cent considered it bold to try a new dish abroad, 23 per cent saw anything less than exploring a truly remote part of the world or camping out in the wilderness as not “daring” enough.

Anthony Daniels, UK general manager for the travel brand, said: “More than ever, travellers are looking to break away from their usual holiday habits. The study also found the average adult has travelled to 12 different countries in their lifetime and go on at least one holiday a year.

More than half (54 per cent) go on adventure holidays with their partner, while 26 per cent prefer to be adventurous with their friends.

And with 66 per cent wanting to try new things on holiday, even if they have to step out of their comfort zone, 61 per cent prefer the idea of doing so if they had an expert guide or helping hand, according to the OnePoll data.

Of those who do take the plunge, it makes them feel excited (37 per cent), happy (25 per cent) and proud (23 per cent).

While the characteristics most associated with an adventurer were found to be active (51 per cent), courageous (45 per cent), and spirited (40 per cent).
