Based on the books by George R.R Martin, Game of Thrones has proved a huge success. Though each episode costs around $6 million to make, the show beat The Sopranos to become HBO’s most-watched show ever with 18.4 million US viewers at the end of Season 4.
Filming for the programme has taken place across several continents, ranging from the icy plains of Iceland to a UNESCO world heritage site in Croatia and the idyllic scenery of Northern Ireland.
Fans of the hit TV show have been prompted to visit these stunning real-life locations in a quest to see them for themselves. A large majority of season five has been filmed in various locations across Spain, including in Osuna, a hilltop town located 50 miles from Seville, used for a battle scene. The town has reported an increase in visitor numbers of 15 per cent since the announcement that it would feature in season five.
