Travel challenge: The best price for a long weekend in Paris
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Every week, we invite competing companies to give us their best deal for a particular journey. Today: a long weekend in Paris departing London early on Friday 20 March, returning on Sunday evening. Our search shows that prices remain competitive, with little disparity between the three firms' offers. The quotes given here are for two people travelling together, including return Eurostar tickets from St Pancras and two nights in a hotel, with breakfast.
VFB Holidays
£332, staying at the two-star Résidence les Gobélins in the 13th arrondissement, "a great budget option" according to Dawn Jones of VFB Holidays. "It's on the Left Bank in a typical Parisian quarter. A street market and reasonably priced restaurants can be found nearby." The price includes breakfast and entrance to the "small but prestigious" Musée Jacquemart-André, currently showing the Italian Primitives exhibition, a collection of recently hidden works (01452 716831; vfbholidays.co.uk).
Cresta Holidays
£338, including "Leisure Select" rail travel – premium class on Eurostar – and staying at the three-star Hôtel Cheverny in the 17th arrondissement. "The Cheverny is within easy reach of the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysées and is a great choice for travellers looking for a value-for-money hotel with good access to Paris," says Cresta's Nick Sandham (0844 800 7020; crestaholidays.co.uk).
Opodo
£332, with accommodation at the two-star Central La Défense Hotel. "A contemporary, welcoming hotel offering an excellent, value-for-money base with nearby Métro links to discover Paris," says Louise Turner of the online Opodo (0871 277 0090; opodo.co.uk)
