Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Each week we invite competing travel companies to give us their best deal for a specific holiday. Today: a week-long cycling trip in the Netherlands. Prices are per person, based on two people departing in June.

Freedom Treks

£590: Discovering Drenthe

This self-guided tour includes seven nights' B&B accommodation in three-star hotels any time in June, bike hire, daily luggage transfer, all-route maps and directions. Travel to the Netherlands is not included. "Drenthe is a fabulous part of Holland if you want to get away from it all," says Dick Smith from Freedom Treks. "This rural area is definitely not touristy – it's one of the least populated areas of Holland and has a landscape and ancient culture that are stunning." (0845 612 6106; freedomtreks.co.uk.)

Saddle Skedaddle

£760: Green Heart Bike & Barge

This group tour includes full-board accommodation on a Dutch barge travelling along the canals, bike hire, guide and route information. The tour departs from Amsterdam every Saturday in June. Travel to the Netherlands is excluded. "The best way to explore the classic Dutch scenery of Delft, Haarlem and the windmills of Kinderdijk is by bike; and staying on a traditional Dutch barge in the evening is the perfect way to end a day on the saddle," says Andrew Straw of Skedaddle (01912 651 110; skedaddle.co.uk).

Inntravel

£898: Dutch Discovery

This self-guided tour includes accommodation with breakfast, return Eurostar travel from London departing anytime in June, regional rail travel in Holland, daily luggage transfer and cycle hire with accessories and maps. "This break discovers quintessential Holland, passing archetypal Dutch landscapes, pretty tulip-growing villages, idyllic fishing harbours and majestic windmills," says Emily Bailey of Inntravel. "You'll cycle from the north-western town of Schagen to Edam, before a fitting finale in Amsterdam." (01653 617 000; inntravel.co.uk.)
