Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Every week we invite competing companies to give us their best deal for a particular holiday. Today: a one-week campsite holiday in France. Prices are for departures on 1 August for a family of up to six people and include return Dover-Calais ferry crossings for one car.

Canvas Holidays

£926: Camping de l'Atlantique, Fouesnant, Brittany. Includes accommodation in a classic two-bedroom mobile home. Camping de l'Atlantique is home to the free Canvas Family Extra programme; activities include "Yoga for kids", Canvas Book Club (an onsite library in partnership with Macmillan Children's books), Medieval Magic workshops and more energetic activities including Waterwalkerz, Aeroball, canoeing and raft building. "The sports and games are specifically geared towards getting parents and youngsters enjoying healthy holidays together. With 2012 on the horizon there has been plenty of talk about the UK's sporting future – this type of initiative is just the kind of thing we need to get kids out in the fresh air and away from the TV and games consoles," says Paul Carter of Canvas Holidays. Eurocamp

£957: Le Croix du Vieux Pont, Berny-Rivière, Paris. Includes accommodation in a two-bedroom classic mobile home and use of the park's facilities. "The park's location and facilities make it a hugely popular holiday destination with both families and couples. Its proximity to Paris and the Disneyland Resort Paris, combined with its fantastic pool complex, play areas, extensive free kids' club and stunning natural surroundings (there are three on-site lakes and a beach, as well as delightful walking in the nearby forest of Compiègne), means that there's something for everyone, whatever their budget," says Eurocamp's Martin Lewis. Keycamp

£1,063: Château des Ormes, Dol-de-Bretagne, Brittany. Includes accommodation in a two-bedroom Supernova mobile home, plus use of facilities such as the kids' club, the new water park, table tennis, football, volleyball, disco, games room and fishing. Other activities such as bike hire and a treetop adventure course are available for a supplement. "This is easily one of our most popular parks with families, with plenty to keep everyone occupied. Indeed, with so many free activities it could be tempting not to get out and about, but many of our customers also enjoy exploring nearby St-Malo or Mont-St-Michel," says Dave McKenna of Keycamp.
