Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

WHERE IS this? For a change we are featuring not a city but an island. Your task is to guess in which country the island on the right is located. The prize for the first correct answer out of the hat will be a five-night, full-board holiday for two on this ultra-exclusive island.

To enter, send your answer, along with your name, address and telephone number, on a postcard to: City Break Competition, PO Box 4021, London E14 5BU. Entries must arrive by Thursday 25 November.

The picture from last week's competition was of Vienna. The prizewinner, Dr Sara Deamont, from Cardiff, will travel to Vienna courtesy of World Sky Holidays (tel: 0121-325 5501), whose Classic City Break brochure includes short breaks in classic style hotels in cities including Istanbul, Prague, Budapest, Venice, Florence and Rome. The winners will fly from Manchester or Gatwick with Lauda Air (tel: 020-7630 5924) which flies from the UK to Vienna 15 times a week, and be transferred on arrival to the chic Hotel ViennArt in the Spittelberg area, home to artists and well known for its bohemian bars and cafes for a stay of either two or four nights. A four- day B&B break of this sort will cost a total of pounds 423 per person with return flights, and hotel with breakfast.
