Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

WHAT I LIKED

My brother James and I are in-line skaters so we loved going to skate-shops and skating in Santa Monica and Escondido.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE

I didn't like the walk in Muir Woods as it was uphill and there was one seat every two miles. Nor did I like crossing the border into Mexico, because it was just after we went to San Diego Zoo, and there were people asking us if we wanted to have our photograph taken with a zebra – except it was a painted donkey. I felt so sad.

WHAT I SAW

We visited Alcatraz, where you get to see what it was like in the cells. In San Diego, we went to the zoo and saw a baby panda. At Big Sur we saw a waterfall, which was really good.

WHAT I ATE AND DRANK

My favourite place was Taco Bell. I think there should be one in England.

WOULD I GO BACK?

In San Diego, we stayed in a great apartment on a pier. You could go down the steps to the beach, go swimming or play volleyball. It was amazing and I hope to go back to California next year.
