Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Android 2.2 smartphone squeezes in more computing power than has ever been seen on a smartphone thanks to its dual core 1GHz + 1GHz processor - which is said to make opening web pages "twice as fast as most other smartphones."
The device runs the full Mozilla Firefox 3.6 browser, supports Adobe Flash and teams up with a laptop dock to offer an "interactive computer-like experience."
"Consumers are increasingly using smartphones as their primary digital screens," said Bill Ogle, chief marketing officer, Motorola Mobility, Inc. in a January 5 press release.
Motorola is making the most of the smartphone-as-a-mobile-computer trend. The company has developed two new accessories that turn the smartphone into what is essentially a mobile laptop.
Motorola's ultra-thin Laptop Dock accessory has an 11.6 inch screen, full keyboard, stereo speakers and offers up to eight hours of battery life while the HD Multimedia Dock offers three USB ports and a HDMI port that let you connect a keyboard, mouse, speakers and a HDMI-compatible monitor or TV.
"With ATRIX 4G, we are rethinking what a smartphone can be, and literally changing the game with a new device category that combines the power of a laptop with the latest smartphone features and 4G speeds," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T mobility and consumer markets.
Additional features found on the 11mm thin ATRIX 4G include 1GB of RAM for effortless multi-tasking, the world's first qHD display, front and back facing cameras, full HD recording, and a biometric fingerprint reader for extra security when unlocking your phone.
The Motorola ATRIX 4G will be available within the first quarter of 2011. Pricing has not been announced.
