From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Virgin Media has apologised to customers after a major outage prevented Virgin Mobile users to make calls, send text messages and use mobile data.

It is unclear what caused the network to go down but it marks the latest in a sting of incidents for the UK operator, which was recently voted the worst internet provider for outages.

"We're working quickly to resolve an issue that's affecting some of our customers making calls, sending text messages and using mobile data," Virgin Media told customers through its official Twitter account.

"We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused."

Another post stated: "Rest assured that we're doing all we can to fix this. We hope to have it back up and running soon."

Customers called for the network to reimburse them for the issues caused but Virgin is yet to respond to these requests.

"Are we going to get any reimbursement for this?" asked one user on Twitter. "It's been a complete hassle today!!! I thought it was my phone playing up, because I can receive calls but can't make them."

Virgin Media did not immediately respond to a request for comment and it is unclear how long the issues will persist.
