Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.TED Global 2010 is a four day conference that showcases ideas and projects from the most creative minds in the world.
Speakers at the 2010 edition of TED Global will explore the theme of "And Now the Good News," uncovering the vivid streams of good news, ideas, science, technology, art, and ways of thinking that are often obscured by today's sensationalist headlines.
"Headlines remind us daily of the political, economic and environmental woes facing the planet," said TED's organizers, "But behind the scenes lie an amazing array of new ideas, new science, new technology, new social and political thinking, new art and a new understanding of who we are. When you put it all together, an entirely more hopeful view of the future emerges."
50 speakers and performers will push the boundaries of common knowledge by investigating the answers to questions such as "is the world becoming freer," "can kids self-educate," "can culture favor innovation," "what can we learn from video games," and "are their rational reasons to be an optimist?"
During the TED Global 2010 conference the head of Emotiv Systems, Tan Le will show off the next generation of human-machine interface with a headset that takes input directly from the brain; Peter Molyneux, head of Microsoft's European games division, will unveil a "virtual friend" who interacts with users; and Neil Gershenfeld, Director of MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms will talk about the boundaries between the digital and physical worlds.
The full list of speakers can be found on the TED Global website, http://conferences.ted.com/TEDGlobal2010/program/speakers.php, along with the full conference schedule.
