Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The game, developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, also topped the UK PlayStation 3 and multi-format chart.
Modern Warfare 2's predecessors, 2008's World At War and 2007's Call of Duty 4, also appeared in the top 20.
FIFA 10, developed and published by Electronic Arts, was in second place and it too repeated its position in the PlayStation 3 and multi-format charts as well. FIFA 09 found itself in 16th place.
Key Microsoft-developed exclusive franchise Halo featured prominently in the Xbox 360 chart. Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars, and Halo 3 all placed, while other Microsoft exclusives such as Forza Motorsport 3, Grand Theft Auto IV's episode bundle Liberty City, Left 4 Dead 2 and Pure kept cash registers ringing throughout the year.
Seven of the top 20 were released in October 2009 or later, making for a busy (and profitable) fourth quarter: Lego Batman, FIFA 10, Forza Motorsport 3, Episodes From Liberty City, Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed II, and Left 4 Dead 2.
Need for Speed: Shift and Halo 3: ODST came out in September.
