From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Though games for Nintendo's Wii were prevented from being 2009's best-selling titles in the UK across all consoles by combined Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sales of Modern Warfare 2 and FIFA 10, the Nintendo Wii exclusives Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit, and Wii Fit Plus all made the multi-format top five and here place at numbers one, two, and three.

Wii Sports Resort was released in July and came bundled with an accessory designed to make the Wii's motion controls even more responsive to movement. It was also included in many off-the-shelf Wii packages.

Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus were two other games to benefit from hardware bundling, though in this case it was more often with the Wii Balance Board, an accessory designed to work in conjunction with Wii Fit in measuring balance, body mass, and to operate as an input device for the console.

Wii Fit Plus was not available until October 2009 and yet placed third in the best-sellers' chart, between Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii, both of which were released in April 2008.

Throughout 2009, Mario Kart Wii continued to sell well, and the Wii Fit juggernaut showed no signs of flagging by landing fourth in the Wii chart as well as in the multi-format chart.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii also proved a hit, and sold enough copies in the six weeks after its mid-November release to secure fifth place. F1 2009 was released at the same time and performed strongly as well, being the only official Formula One racing game released since 2007 and benefiting from limited availability (the PSP is the only other system to have the title) and largely positive reviews.
