Twitter appears to have stopped working for many users, who are struggling to load it if they can get online at all.

The site is loading slowly or showing the robot that appears when it is broken, stopping people from getting onto it.

The issues also seem to be affecting other sites and apps like Tweetdeck, which are running slowly.

The Twitter site itself showed the normal warning it does when it has a problem: "Something is technically wrong," and a mesage that things will be "back to normal soon", alongside a strange robot.

The website Down Detector showed a surge of reports on Tuesday afternoon UK time. The site reported that problems were reported across the website, Android app and iOS apps.
