From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

According to DownDetector’s Twitter outage map major problems were being experienced across the world, with more than 53,000 complaints at 2.45pm PT.
Users in the UK, America and Australia were among those seeing issues.
“Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing—we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon,” Twitter reads on its own blog.
The company added that there was no evidence that the outage was caused by a security breach or hack.
The outage comes just a day after the social media giant received heavy criticism from Donald Trump for slowing down the spread of the controversial Hunter Biden emails story.
Earlier this summer Twitter suffered a major hack of high-profile, including Kanye West, Jeff Bezos, Apple, Elon Musk and Joe Biden.
The hack, which took place on July 15, targeted 130 accounts.
Twitter has now posted that the outage is under investigation.
“Investigating Irregularity with Twitter APIs,” the company wrote on its Twitter status page.
"We know people are having trouble Tweeting and using Twitter. We’re working to fix this issue as quickly as possible," said a Twitter spokesman.
