Google's list of top search terms for 2010 was dominated by popular trends like Chatroulette and the iPad while rival search engine Bing listed celebrities Kim Kardashian and Sandra Bullock as some of the most popular search terms for the year.
Over at KickassTorrents - one of the top ten torrent sites in terms of visitors - searchers had a clear motive when typing in their queries: finding movies, porn and TV shows to download.
Science-fiction movie Inception grabbed the top spot on the list of most searched for terms in 2010 said TorrentFreak, a website dedicated to news about peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, in a December 27 blog post about the most searched for phrases and keywords on KickassTorrents.
The popular movie was also rated as the third most pirated film of 2010 according to a separate report.
New release movies Iron Man 2, Avatar, Despicable Me, and Clash of the Titans made it into the top 10. The names of movies continued to appear throughout the top 100 search terms and formed an overwhelming majority of the searches in 2010.
Adult searches were high on the list of BitTorrent searches too. "xxx" made it into fourth place and "porn" was in ninth position.
"Another interesting keyword is 'French' which shows that France's anti-piracy law that went into effect earlier this year isn't chasing many people away from BitTorrent," commented TorrentFreak.
Glee was the most popular TV search term, appearing in twelfth place on the list.
