From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Electric car company Tesla have marked the festive season by hacking their high-tech vehicles to put on a Christmas light show.

The video, which is set to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's dramatic Wizards in Winter, features three of the company's new Model X SUVs taking part in the festive display.

The cars' trademark gullwing doors (a favourite of billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk) also make an appearance, flashing and waving in time with the music.

Corporate Christmas videos can often be fairly cringey, but Tesla has done well here - it's bound to appeal to the company's legions of loyal followers.

Elon Musk has a lot to celebrate this Christmas - recently, the Falcon 9 rocket, built by his other company, SpaceX, made a successful vertical (and gentle) landing after delivering a payload of satellites into orbit, a huge milestone in the history of space travel.

The success of the rocket's landing could cut the cost of delivering satellites (and people) into space by a factor of 100, so it's impressive that SpaceX, a private company, have managed to make such a breakthrough.

Tesla's Model X sedan, the vehicle which actually managed to make electric cars cool, was also delivered to buyers this year, to rave reviews.

The car can go from 0 to 60mph in just 3.3 seconds, and its much-hyped 'autopilot' mode, in which the car can change lanes and alter its speed without any input from the driver, was a breakthrough in self-driving car autonomy.

There's a long waiting list to get your hands on one of the SUVs, and they're not cheap either - but if you can make the lights flash just like Tesla did, it could cut down on the amount of money you spend on Christmas lights next year.
