From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In a break from its typical naming convention, the South Korean electronics giant will be calling the marquee device the Galaxy S20, according to reports by LetsGoDigital and notorious leaker Ice Universe.
Photos of the "insane" handset obtained by xda developers reveal it will also come with a new rear-camera setup and an Infinity-O display.
The new S-series Galaxy phones will keep the '+' suffix for the larger version of the phone but will name the higher-end model the Galaxy Ultra 5G.
This top-tier version is expected to feature an impressive 16GB of RAM - more than most modern laptops.
The Galaxy S20 series of smartphones are expected to have improved displays, more powerful batteries, and vastly improved cameras.
The latest rumours support previous reports that the main camera will come with a 108-megapixel image sensor, as well as an ultrawide-angle lens and one capable of 5x optical zoom.
Samsung is holding an Unpacked event on 11 February, during which the S20 phones will likely be unveiled, as well as at least one new folding smartphone.
Separate leaks indicate the follow-up to the beleaguered Samsung Galaxy Fold could radically alter the folding design by utilising a clamshell mechanism.
Samsung does not comment on unreleased devices but revealed at its developer conference last year that it has been working on a new foldable design.
"This brand-new form factor that we're now exploring will not only easily fit in your pocket, but it also changes the way you use your phone," Hyesoon, Samsung Mobile's head of framework R&D, said at the time.
Details of the new phone, codenamed Bloom, were revealed at a secretive meeting at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas earlier this month.
