From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Passengers on Qantas will be given virtual reality headsets to keep them entertained during flights.

The headsets will be available in the first class lounges at Sydney and Melbourne airports as well as the first class cabins on some of Qantas’s A380 services.

Passengers will be able to watch 360-degree videos that highlight destinations that Qantas flies to, new products from the airline and blockbuster films.

The company will run a three month trial to see how customers take to the virtual reality offering.

Qantas is working with Jaunt — a company that makes video experiences in 360-degrees, and filmed a Paul McCartney concert using the technology earlier this year — to create films for the headsets, including those that will show off Qantas destinations.

Qantas has signed its first partnership with Australia’s North Territory’s tourism office, which will see the company create a 360-degree film about the Kakadu National Park.

The headsets will arrive in the airport lounges from mid-February, and on flights between Los Angeles and Australia from mid-March.
