The company claims that the small stick – which provides the same box sets and live TV that come with the bigger Now TV box – is the cheapest available on the market. It will compete with other streaming gadgets like Amazon's Fire TV Stick, which it closely resembles.
All of the little sticks plug right into the HDMI port on the TV, rather than working as set-top boxes. That allows them to be cheaper than the now traditional streaming boxes, as well as not taking up space around your television.
Now TV is owned by Sky and serves as its entry into the flourishing internet streaming market. While traditional Sky boxes continue to rely on satellite connections to provide the TV signal – though Sky has announced that it will eventually allow people to get that over the internet, too.
The new stick will cost £14.99, though Sky will also sell it with other bundles like a one-month cinema or sports pass for a little bit more. Amazon's fire stick costs £39.99, though both also require additional subscriptions to actually get the companies' TV on them.
