Hidden code found in Apple's software could indicate that the iPhone X is about to get a lot bigger.

Apple has long been rumoured to be releasing a much bigger version of the current phone along with two other updated models this September.

Now code unearthed in iOS 12 – which will be released alongside the new phones, but is available to developers now – appears to show that bigger phone.

Images contained within that software seem to show the bigger handset, alongside the more traditional iPhone X. Apple is expected to reveal a new phone in the existing size and design this September, as well as the Plus-sized model that will include the same features but in a scaled-up body.

The images were found by Guilherme Rambo, an iOS developer who helped unearth a trove of secrets in last year's beta. While there has been nothing of the scale of the leaks about the iPhone X – which was almost entirely revealed when Apple inadvertently uploaded software to the public – the early versions of the operating syste

Mr Rambo also showed a new image apparently depicting the expected updated version of the iPad Pro. The picture is a strange shape, but that appears to be because it will be able to be altered according to the size of the device.

Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone – as well as potentially those new iPads – at an event next month. A host of information has leaked about the device, including the fact that it might be the most confusing line-up and naming scheme to date.
