Most active Facebook games of the past four weeks: 'FarmVille' rules the roost
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.FarmVille grabbed headlines this week as it was the first Facebook application to reach 80 million users. In fact, its closest rival, Birthday Cards, has 47 million users but still lags a good 20 million behind the champion app.
FarmVille's nabbing 3 million extra users was no doubt helped by the publicity that Zynga's game recieved following its success, as it is unusual to have such a massive amount of extra users feature in the weekly growth charts.
SPP Ranch!, then, has some way to go to catch up, but distinguishes itself from other farm-themed games by focusing on cute animals rather than economic prosperity - a cross between the gotta-train-them-all of Pokémon, the unrelenting animal cuteness of the I Can Has Cheezburger and Cute Overload photo websites, and the usual Facebook-friendly gaming formula.
Restaurant Life is the newest game from Crowdstar, whose most successful game is Happy Aquarium, and the 'beta' suffix indicates that it is a work in progress, yet still open to new customers.
