From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A man has been called out on the social networking site for allegedly concocting two fake hand-written noise complaint letters from his neighbour.
The unidentified man, who goes by the username “GezStickman”, posted on a SubReddit on Wednesday two notes from their neighbours about the noise they made during sex.
The first was addressed to the “inconsiderate people that had sex last night and were incredibly loud” and asked them to “STOP.” So far, so standard for noise complaint letters.
It was the second letter, addressed to the “consistent note leaver” that Reddit users appeared to have a problem with, mainly due to the note’s ending.
“P.s. To the people who were having sex – Bravo,” the letter read. It added: “Smash on.”
Reddit users immediately poured scorn on “GezStickman”, claiming the handwriting in both notes was similar and questioning why the letter would be left in the lift, rather than under the user’s door.
One wrote: “Of all the things that didn't happen, this is the thing that didn't happen the most.”
