Apple appears to have cut down the battery, and slightly increased the size, of its new phone to make way for the technology needed for new features, like its pressure-sensitive display. But the company claims that will make no difference to its life — with the extra time likely being made up by more efficient components.
As rumoured, the smaller iPhone 6s has a 1715mAh battery, down from 1810mAh in the old phone. That will give up to 14 hours of talk time and up to 10 days if the phone is in standby, according to specs posted by Apple last night.
It isn’t clear whether the iPhone 6s Plus has had its battery shrunk down. But it also has the same battery life, and so is likely to have been had its capacity reduced by the same amount.
The new Plus lasts for slightly longer than its smaller sibling. It lasts for up to 24 hours of talk time and up to 16 days in standby — the same as the 6.
Apple didn’t mention the phone’s battery or how long it would last onstage at all, but it had been rumoured before the event that it would be reduced. It wasn’t until an image of the battery itself was spotted in Apple’s swooping introductory video that the exact capacity was revealed.
