Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Google Assistant is one of the tech giant's most important creations.

It's an intelligent virtual helper that taps into Google's vast wealth of knowledge, and is designed to always be on hand to make your life a little bit easier.

You can ask it questions, tell it to do things for you and even get it to crack jokes.

Assistant is available on a multitude of smartphones and Google Home, and is capable of linking with an ever-growing number of popular services and devices.

It's also smart enough to recognise lots of different voices and remember all of the individual accounts, preferences and interests associated with them.

Google is trying to make it as capable and accessible as it can possibly be, and it's growing better by the month.

However, because it's designed to do so many things, Assistant isn't exactly Google's most intuitive product.

We’ve rounded up a selection of the best Google Assistant tips and tricks. Click on the gallery below to start browsing.
