Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Set at the start of the War in Afghanistan, Clean Sweep is a team-based elimination mode. The two new maps are called Bagram Hangar and Khyber Cave, while the other two are redesigned versions of the Diwagal Camp and Kabul City environments.
The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 content is free to those that registered the game via an Online Pass code included with the full game, part of a general trend to encourage video gamers to buy first-hand.
What else is happening during the same week that Clean Sweep hits? Well, there are two James Bond games in the form of GoldenEye 007 and Blood Stone, and Microsoft's Kinect Sensor and suite of motion-controlled family games launch for Xbox 360.
Just around the corner, though, is the next installment from genre giant Call of Duty.
Call of Duty: Black Ops, due November 9, is to be accompanied by a gargantuan marketing campaign and follows on from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which has been trumpeted by publishers Activision as a world-record entertainment launch, making $550 million in the first five days since its November 2009 release.
Medal of Honor's publishers, Electronic Arts, have said that their game sold 1.5 million copies and generated $100 million during its first five days.
