From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Facebook and Instagram appear to have stopped working properly for at least some of their users.

People attempting to login to a variety of Meta services found they were unable to get online on Wednesday.

Some reported that they were able to get into their accounts but that a number of technical issues appeared when they did. Pictures may not show properly, or the search bar might not work, for instance.

But the outage seemed relatively minor: the number of reports of issues were low, and many found they were able to get online as usual.

Meta does not operate an official status page for its products, like many other platforms. It does offer a status page for its business products, which did not show any issues on Wednesday.

The problems came just a couple of weeks after a major outage that took most Meta products down for several hours.

Meta said then that the problems were caused by a “technical issue”.
