From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. EE's mobile network has stopped working, leaving people temporarily unable to use the internet on their phones.

The problems were reported across the UK. They are gradually receding, according to the website Down Detector, but for a while it was impossible to use data connections.

Users weren't notified that the network was going down. And since it wasn't possible to search for news about the network's outage, many were just left staring at their phones without it loading.

"We’ve identified a technical issue with one of our systems and we are working to fix it as quickly as possible," EE said in an initial tweet. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

In a follow-up post, it said the problem was being fixed and that service would be gradually restored.

"We have now fixed the technical issue that affected mobile internet services for some of our customers this morning," it wrote. "All services are now being restored for our customers and should be back to normal soon.
