From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The name of American actress and talk show host "Ellen DeGeneres" is the most talked about topic on Twitter on July 30 at 9:30 AM GMT.

DeGeneres's name has shot into the top of Twitter's trending topics as the news broke she was leaving the judging panel of American Idol after just one season.

A YouTube video of two teenage girls (going by the names of Sinta and Jojo) lip-syncing to an Indonesian pop song called "Keong Racun" continues to generate chatter on Twitter. "Keong Racun " moves down one place overnight to number two.

The memes "#igetsomadwhen," "neveragain" and "#istillwetthebed" are trending in third, fifth and seventh places respectively, while science fiction movie " Inception" retains its popularity with Twitter fans and is in the charts at number four.

The iPhone 4 was launched in 17 additional countries on July 30 including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Twitter users are talking about the launch, asking their friends if they managed to purchase a phone before stocks ran out.

The iPhone 4 is also trending because Mac-centric magazine Macworld used the iPhone 4's camera to shoot this month's cover.

Popular video game Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty ("Starcraft") moves down one place to number eight, ahead of " Wowowee" (the name of a daytime variety TV show in the Philippines) and "TGIF" (short for "thank god it's Friday").
