Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Despite falling to sixth place on the list, the pop star still managed to hit the 9 million followers milestone during the week.
Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry shot past the 9 million mark too as more and more of their fans hit the “Follow” button on Twitter.
Over on Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo, competition for fourth place has been fierce.
Taiwanese TV host Xie Na rocketed up Weibo’s most followed microbloggers chart from sixth place to fourth place during the week. She leaped over Zhao Wei and Jung Kyung Ho while also surpassing the 8 million followers milestone along the way.
Zhao Wei and Jung Kyung Ho passed 8 million followers too with just a few thousand fans separating them from Xie Na’s fourth place lead.
In September 2010, Twitter had 175 million registered users, while Sina reports that Weibo had more than 140 million registered users in May 2011.
