From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Black Friday phenomenon – which already stretches over the following weekend and into Cyber Monday – grows each year, taking up more days and more focus. That is matched by companies who are more and more desperate to show off their deals, including Amazon.
This year, the company has launched its Black Friday page with eight days left to go. And as ever, the best deals look to be on Amazon's own stuff.
The company is selling its small Echo Dot for £34.99, down from £49.99. That's a relatively good deal and it's certainly rare that Amazon would knock more off the price, meaning that it's probably the best time to buy the small, Alexa-enabled puck.
If you want something bigger, Amazon has also reduced the classic Echo. It's now being sold for £69.99, down from £89.99 – also much cheaper than the company usually sells it, even when it's got deals on.
That deal is for the newly redesigned, and much smaller, Echo. As well as reducing the size, Amazon now sells the tube in a range of different colours, all of which are reduced.
The deals started at the same time the newest entry to the Echo family – the Show – was released in the UK. But there are no deals on the new Echo with a screen, and Amazon is selling both the white and black versions for £199, as it intends to from now on.
It's also selling the new Echo Plus – which is bigger, has better sound and more smart home features – for £139.99. That hasn't been reduced yet, and given it's so new is unlikely to before the end of the Black Friday deals.
