From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Pre-orders for the next Civilization strategy game started in earnest during the week of May 3-9 as Civilization V picked up a healthy amount of interest on the Steam Network's store for downloadable PC games, not dampened by a vague release date of "fall 2010".

Modern Warfare 2 was boosted by a weekend sale and the presence of extra multiplayer maps in the Stimulus Package, while Civilization IV (first released in 2005) was part of a cross-promotion with the Civ V pre-order.

The Codemasters Racing Pack benefited from a similar cut price deal, containing as it does the excellent DiRT, DiRT 2, FUEL, GRID, and ToCA 3, and the Guild Wars Trilogy of online multiplayer adventure games was also a bit of a bargain being made available for half the usual price in celebration of the first game's five-year anniversary.
