From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The company unveiled the new Watch as part of the event last month where it also showed the new iPhone 6s, iPad Pro and Apple TV. It is made in partnership with the Paris-based, nearly 200-year-old fashion brand, and is made in part to look like one of the company’s traditional watches.
Apple is only selling the Watch in select Apple Stores and other shops, keeping the same luxury approach that it began when the wearable launched in April. A full list of the shops selling it — which includes the big London Apple Stores in Covent Garden and Regent Street — can be found on Apple’s website.
The Watch features the stainless steel look of the normal Apple Watch. But it comes with one of three different styles of Hermès band: the Single Tour, which looks like a normal strap; the Double Tour, which wraps around twice; and the Cuff, which is much larger.
The Watches start at £1,000 for the smaller model with the Single Tour strap, and they go all the way up to £1,350 for the large model with the big Cuff.
They are available from today in the UK as well as other countries including the US.
