Apple Start Something New campaign launched with free drawing and photography classes in stores

The company will teach people to draw on their iPads and take pictures with their iPhones, as part of a campaign that will also see the stores decorated with images taken on iPhones and made on iPads

Apple will teach people to draw for free as part of its attempt to show off the iPad and iPhone as creative tools.

The company is running free drawing and photography classes as part of its “Start Something New” campaign. That will also see Apple’s shops decorated with pictures made on the company’s products.

Apple is running two free workshops: “Sketch, Draw, and Paint with iPad” and “Shoot More Artistic Photos with iPhone”.

Apple says that the iPad class will see people “practice basic techniques for sketching, drawing, and painting”. That will let people try out the Apple Pencil for the iPad Pro, and the company is inviting people of all levels.

The photography class asks people to bring iPhones along and will “help you try out various accessories and techniques—like long exposure for light trails, using Time-lapse to show progression, or getting up close with nature using a macro lens”.

The company is also running one-off classes like an experimental filmmaking talk at the Apple Store in Covent Garden. That will see director Greg Barth, one of the campaign’s featured artists, talk about how to make films on low budgets and using simple kit like iPhones.

As well as the classes, Apple Stores have been decorated with work primarily created by people on iPhones and iPads.
