According to technology blog Engadget, readers who ordered the international version of Amazon's Kindle received an email announcing the price drop. Amazon told customers they would automatically refund the price difference.
The Kindle page at Amazon.com confirms the price drop, with the US & International Wireless, Latest Generation device now listed at $259.
According to Engadget, customers who had purchased the device before the price cut received the following message in an email: "Good news! Due to strong customer demand for our newest Kindle with U.S. and international wireless, we are consolidating our family of 6" Kindles. As part of this consolidation, we are lowering the price of the Kindle you just purchased from $279 down to $259. You don't need to do anything to get the lower price--we are automatically issuing you a $20 refund. This refund should be processed in the next few days and will appear as a credit on your next billing statement."
The International Kindle will now sell at the same price as Barnes and Noble's Nook e-reader. The dual-screen Nook features both a color touchscreen and a power-saving e-ink screen. The device will go on sale at the end of November for $259.
