Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Loughborough University vice-chancellor, Professor Robert Allison, said he was “absolutely delighted” with the institution’s place in the Guardian table, and highlighted its importance because it bases its results on the factors that matter most to students.
He continued: “Although rankings fluctuate, with universities going up and down, this latest positioning for Loughborough is yet further evidence of our continued success, and is testament to the hard work that has taken place across the university.”
The Guardian’s league tables rank universities according to spending per student, student/staff ratio, graduate career prospects, and what grades applicants need to get a place, among other factors.
Specialist tables also rank universities by subject area.
Jess Excell, president of Loughborough Students’ Union, echoed the professor’s comments, and said: “To be recognised as a leading university in the UK is fantastic.
“Working together, we have created a unique environment at Loughborough where each individual student is valued and listed to. It makes me very proud to be president of Loughborough Students’ Union.”
